In the morning of 1st November 2021, a bolero pickup full with illegal woods which was being covered with tea leaves above it, was transported from Margherita to Duliajan that was seized in the mid-way by several police officers of Margherita.

The vehicle was in a hurry and dashed and lost its control which led to an accident near Margherita’s Hill-view road for which police officers arrived at the spot and on investigating the pickup it was found that under a heap of tea leaves there were about 75 CFT wood log and planks hidden.

The vehicle seized was identified to have registered as AS 23 AC 1937 and the owner of the vehicle and dealer was identified as Rupam Maan of Kala Pathar. More information regarding the  amount of time this was going on was still unknown.

When asked to the driver he said, ” I brought the woods from Margherita but I don’t know the name of the particular place. The dealer’s name is Rupam and I don’t know for how long this was going on. I only went there yesterday and returned today. The covering with tea leaves was done by them and I only went yesterday and took it and came back as they prepared it. There are about 75-80 CFT wood planks in this vehicle. The dealer asked me to take it from that location to Duliajan and report him. The dealer’s name is Rupam Maan and he is from Kala Pathar.”

The reporters tried to get more information from the driver but he was tight lipped and hence not much of the information was obtained. The police were investigating the matter and would look over it deeply and get the required information they want and deal with it accordingly. The vehicle was taken to the police station and driver was kept in custody to get more information and will be dealt likewise.
