Assam cops have captured Gujarat MLA and Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani from Palanpur town in Gujarat’s Banaskantha locale and took him toward the North-Eastern state via air in the early long stretches of Thursday, officials said.

An FIR was filed in opposition to Mevani in Kokrajhar in Assam by one Arup Kumar Dey for 2 of his tweets that he had posted on April 17 forward of Modi’s go to to Gujarat. Angered over Mevani’s arrest, Gujarat Congress leaders staged a demonstration near Sarangpur circle in the city and demanded his release. Jignesh Mevani was remanded to three-day police custody on Thursday. Although the police sought 14 day custody, the court agenda of the chief judicial Justice of the Peace of Kokrajhar remanded Mevani for only 3 days.
