On 19 th October 2021, a wild fire broke out causing havoc and ruined 5 houses and properties in Jagun of Margherita division.
The fire was doubted to be caused by the explosion of four (4) domestic cylinders or from short circuit. The fire first generated from the rent house of Mr. Padam Sharma burning the house down and later spread to the neighbouring four (4) houses burning them down completely.
The locals as well as fire brigade did their best to extinguish the fierce fire on time and put it out but the victims belongings were already turned down to ashes, leaving nothing behind.
The total amount of loss faced through this havoc is estimated to be about 30 lakhs. People tried their best to reduce the fire before the fire brigade appeared and retrieve some of the belongings they could but it was of no use as the fire kept growing but later on they found that everything was burnt. Police officers and army officers too came to examine the area and the case.
When asked to a nearby local resident he said, ” Today at a village near Jagun market, the rent house of Mr. Padam Sharma caught fire and subsequently his other four rent houses to caught fire which caused a heavy loss of about 30-35 lakhs of rupees along with the belongings of the people living there. Not only today but day before yesterday a house behind my house caught fire and was totally destroyed too. I have observed that within this two months a lot of places had caught fire and had been completely burnt down. Even though a lot of accidents had taken place for already a period of time and we the people of the society have gone to their office and begged them to provide us with atleast one fire brigade of our own but none of the victims as well as us had not received any help from the authorities or ministers who only appear during election campaign for votes and give fake promises. If they cannot even provide a fire brigade we would be bound to close down the Jagun- Tirap organisation and won’t support them any more.”
When the reporters asked to one of the victims he said, ” At that moment I was not present as I went to the market and from there I got the news of the fire breaking out. We had almost lost everything and it had been a loss of more than a lakh of rupees along with cash, jewelleries, documents. I don’t know how it happened as I was not there.”
