A strange phone call reveals a question from the grave – Was The Godfather of Soul murdered? About 40 years ago, a songwriter found himself in the inner circle of musician James Brown. Thomas Lake asks the circus singer further questions about her friendship with Adrienne Brown, who believed there was a criminal organization based around the Godfather of Soul which she called “The Machine”. Lake learns that the two women were convinced that US government agents spied on them and tried to kill them. It turns out that James Brown also suspected that he was being watched by the CIA during his lifetime. So the lake deepens the mystery behind government surveillance and celebrity.
